Techniques in Radio Direction Finding
27 October 2003
Radio Direction Finding (RDF) is discussed for the purposes of location of transmitters. Analog, physical techniques are presented for increasing the information gathered by receivers, including a novel application of the lens antenna to RDF. Classical interfero metric and TDOA techniques are discussed.
Array Signal Processing algorithms for RDF contribute a significant portion of this paper. In this field, the beamformer, Capon's beamformer, and the MUltiple SIgnal Classifier (MUSIC) are investigated. The results obtained from experiments performed on an acoustic array constructed for this purpose are presented alongside those arising from software simulation.
